View molecules and proteins in MOL or PDB format in stunning 3D and smoothness on Windows Phone!

This app lets you upload your own MOL and PDB files through SkyDrive or download PDB files through the RCSB's PDB database. Currently, the 3D engine has support for simple molecules, protein backbones, alpha helices, beta sheets, and various heteroatoms. In future versions, nucleotides will be added along with many upgraded features. Not all pdb files will display perfectly as the pdb viewer portion is a work in progress.

When viewing a molecule, shake your phone to make a full screen capture that will download to your Pictures Hub. In addition, the LiveTile for this app is updated with the same picture. Swipe the screen to rotate the molecule OR pinch the screen to zoom in and out.

Students and educators alike can enjoy using the education section of this app. Currently, succinct lessons on VSEPR (valence shell electron pair repulsion), cis/trans isomers, and enantiomers have been included. All lessons include 3D models to help teach the concept. These include modifications to the 3D rendering code that include split screen viewing of two molecules and rotation around individual bonds.

This app is going to be updated regularly, both with new lessons and with new features (and bug fixes) for the 3D viewer. This is just version 1.0 and I'm very excited at what this phone can do with just basic XNA rendering. It's only going to get better. Please, do not hesitate to contact the author with feature requests!
