And now…a personal word from the developer: Checkbook Genius for Windows Phone has been COMPLETELY RE-WRITTEN. With Version 1.5, it’s a whole new experience. When I wrote Checkbook Genius almost a year ago, I was relatively new to the Windows Phone platform. And Windows Phone was pretty new itself – too new, in fact, to include any kind of database support, a critical element in apps like this. My attempts to create a personal finance app in the days before Microsoft gave us Mango fell short, and I heard from many of you about it (some in quite blunt terms, I might add). The intent of Checkbook Genius has not changed – it is still intended to be the easiest electronic checkbook and account manager on the market. You can still use it to track checking accounts, savings accounts, gift cards, credit cards, and more. But this version has a new look and feel, and some new features. Some of you were wanting auto-complete for payees – that’s there now. Some of you wanted some kind of backup facility – I’ve created something that’s as good as I could with a platform that locks down all its phones; I hope you’ll find it useful. Sorting – with Mango database support – now works. And editing existing transactions shouldn’t be the problem it once was. Why did it take so long to get a new version to market? Real life got in the way. Being a mobile developer is not an express ticket to riches. For every “Angry Birds”, there are hundreds of thousands of apps that fail to connect with the market as bona-fide hits. Like many others in the working class, I had to sideline mobile development for a job to pay the bills. So if this is your first time seeing Checkbook Genius, let me assure you that on the Android platform, this app is doing well with thousands of users, and it’s my aim to replicate that success here. And if you’re a past user, I hope I can welcome you back! TAKE THE 3-DAY TRIAL TODAY! Special re-introductory price for a limited time!
2/10/2014Pretty good app. 5 stars if a calculator was added to input of money, the font could be adjusted so more accounts could show without scrolling, and a summary of all accounts would be nice.
8/15/2013If you try the trial version, once your 3 days is up you can't get back in to see your data. Then when you pay for the app, you have to start all over and the free version is still on your phone. There is no smooth transfer. You have to re-enter all your data. Poor programming. Too many clicks/to get to your accounts. Once I open the program, obviously I want to use it. I should not have to click "go" to get to another menu to choose to see my accounts. Needs less pretty and more function.
11/25/2012Love the app, just seems at times it gets laggy when inputting info. Other than that best looking check book app out there Imo. For me the simple operation is perfect. I don't need a graph or an expense spreadsheet ...just my daily transactions. This does exactly that. Thank you.
11/22/2012So far this is perfect for what I need but it's not quite a 5 star app. Please remove the "Go" Splash screen at the start up. And have an option to just start on the accounts screen. It's two screen clicks just to get to the list of the accounts. Like the other reviewer said. Please update the backup options. (Email, Skydrive, Dropbox etc) I would like to see an option to loose the colored square background as well.
7/13/2012So far, haven't seen the nightmares encountered in the previous version of the app ("CheckbookGenius"), but this app has two fatal flaws: 1) The backup solution is awkward (it requires you to copy/paste plaintext XML to email or other app), and there's no way to edit, delete (delete??!!) a transfer or make a transfer a preset. That's a deal breaker. The app is also lacking recurring transactions and (at least limited) budgeting functionality. Nicely designed, though. With some spit and polish, this app could go far...
