Automatically saving the photos and videos you take to OneDrive

Looking for a set-it-and-forget-it way of backing up the photos and videos you take on your Windows Phone? Just set your phone to automatically save them all to Microsoft OneDrive (formerly SkyDrive) at full or reduced resolution. That way, even if your phone ends up at the bottom of a lake, your memories will be safe and sound in the cloud.

To automatically save photos and videos to OneDrive

  1. In the App list, tap Photos Photos icon.

  2. Tap More More icon, then tap Settings.

  3. Under Auto-upload, tap OneDrive.

  4. Under Photos or Videos, tap the upload type you want: Good quality for lower resolution or Best quality for full resolution.

Notes

  • If you choose Good quality, your photos or videos may be uploaded to OneDrive using your mobile data plan, which may incur charges. (If you connect to a WiFi network, they'll be uploaded over WiFi.) If you choose Best quality, your photos and videos will only be uploaded when you're connected to a WiFi network.
  • To turn on auto-uploading for any apps you've installed that have uploading capability, under Auto-upload, tap Apps (if you don't have any such apps installed, you'll be able to search for some in the Store).

To save individual photos to OneDrive

If you don't want to automatically save photos to OneDrive but still want to back up a few of your favourites from time to time, tap OneDriveOneDrive icon in the App list, then tap Add Plus icon. You'll be taken to your photos, where you can tap any picture you want to upload.
