Email attachments FAQ

  • You can attach photos and Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files to an email. You can also attach videos you've taken with your phone.

    To attach a document, it must be either stored on your phone or attached to an email that you received. You can attach a photo from your Facebook or your SkyDrive photo albums, even if you haven't saved it to your phone.

    If you want to send more than one Office file or video, you'll need a message for each attachment. You can attach multiple pictures to an email.

  • To attach a document

    1. In the App list, tap Office Office icon to open the Office Hub.

    2. Tap a document to open it, tap More More icon, and then tap Share.

    3. Tap the email account you want to send your message from, finish composing your email, and then tap Send.

    To attach a photo

    1. On Start Start icon, tap the email account you want to use to send your email.

    2. Tap New New icon, and then tap Attach Attach icon.

    3. Tap all the photos you want to add, and then tap Done Done icon.

    4. Finish composing your email, and then tap Send.

    Tip

    You can also send photos from the Photos Hub by tapping and holding a photo, tapping Share, and then tapping the account you want to use to send your email.

    To attach a video you took on the phone

    1. On Start Start icon, tap Photos Photos Tile > Camera roll.

    2. Tap a video to open it, tap More More icon, and then tap Share.

    3. Tap the email account you want to use to send your message, finish composing your email, and then tap Send Send icon.

    To attach a video you added to your phone

    1. On Start Start icon, tap Music + Videos Music + Videos Tile > Videos.

    2. Tap a video to open it, tap More More icon, and then tap Share.

    3. Tap the email account you want to use to send your message, finish composing your email, and then tap Send Send icon.

  • You might want to remove an attachment from an email before you send it. For example, if you're forwarding a message that has an attachment, but you don't want to forward the attachment, you can remove it before you send the message.

    • In the email, tap Remove just below the attached file, and then tap Yes.
  • In the email, tap the attached file Attachment icon. You should see an indicator that the file is downloading: Attachment downloading icon. When the file has finished downloading, tap it to open it, and then do one of the following:

    To save a photo

    • Tap More More icon, and then tap Save to phone. The picture is saved in the Saved Pictures album.

    To save a document

    1. Tap More More icon, and then tap Save as.

    2. Enter a name for the document.

    3. In the Save to list, decide whether you want to save it to SkyDrive or to your phone. If you save it to your phone, you can find it in the Office Hub.

    4. Tap Save.
