Create and edit my contacts

When you set up accounts on your phone (such as Facebook or Outlook), all the contacts or friends from those accounts will show up as contacts in People. You can create new contacts, edit existing ones, or delete the ones you don't want to see.

Contact profile in Windows Phone

To create a new contact

  1. On Start Start icon, tap PeoplePeople icon.

  2. Flick to All, and then tap New New icon.

  3. Tap the account you want to create the contact in.

  4. Do any of the following:

    • Tap Name to add your contact's name, company, and other personal information. When you're finished, tap Save Save icon.
    • Tap Phone to add a work, home, or mobile number, and then tap Save Save icon.
    • Tap Email to add an email address, and then tap Save Save icon.
    • To change the ringtone you'll hear when this person calls you, tap Ringtone. Tap Play Play icon to preview a ringtone, tap the ringtone's name to assign it to this contact, and then tap Save Save icon. To learn more, see Ringtones, sounds, and volume.
    • To add more details, including an address, website, birthday, or notes, tap Other.
    • To add a picture to a contact, tap Add photo.
  5. When you're finished adding information, tap Save Save icon.

Tip

  • If you need to create a large number of contacts from scratch, it might be easier to type them into an online email account (such as Outlook.com). Then, when you set up the account on your phone, your contacts will automatically sync between your phone and that account.
  • If you have multiple versions of the same contact in different accounts (for example, Outlook.com and Facebook), you can link them so all their info shows up in one contact card. Tap Link Link icon on a contact card, and then tap a contact under Suggested links or tap Choose a contact to find the right one.

To edit a contact

You can add or change information for a contact. If you're editing a linked contact, you can choose which account you want to store the changes in.

  1. On Start Start icon, tap People People icon.

  2. Flick to All, find and tap the contact you want to edit, and then tap Edit Edit icon.

  3. If this is a linked contacta contact with multiple accounts that show up as one contact cardtap the account you want to edit.

  4. Do one of the following:

    • To edit existing info, tap it, make your changes, and then tap Save Save icon.
    • To add new info, tap the plus sign Add icon next to the item you want to add, enter the new information, and then tap Save Save icon.

To delete a contact

While you can't delete a Facebook, Twitter, or LinkedIn contact from your phone, you can delete contacts from other services. When you do this, the contact will be deleted both from your phone and from the online service where it's stored.

  1. On Start Start icon, tap People People icon.

  2. Flick to All, then find and tap the contact you want to delete.

  3. Tap More More icon, and then tap Delete.

  4. If the contact is a linked contactone contact card with multiple accounts associated with ityou'll need to tap the account from which you want to delete that contact.

    Note

You can't delete Facebook, Twitter, or LinkedIn contacts from your phone, so you won't see those accounts as choices when deleting a linked contact.

  5. Tap Delete.

Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn contacts

You can't create, delete, or edit Facebook, Twitter, or LinkedIn contacts using your phone. However, you can add information to a contact card for one of those services, then save it to a different account (such as Outlook.com).

  1. On Start Start icon, tap People People icon.

  2. Flick to All, then find and tap the contact you want to update.

  3. Tap Edit Edit icon, and then tap Add.

  4. Tap the account you want to save the information to.

  5. Add the information, and then tap Save Save icon.

Notes

  • You can't move or copy contacts between services (such as Google and Outlook) on your phone. See Import contacts onto my new phone to learn more about getting your contacts from various places onto your phone.
  • Contacts are synced between your phone and online services like Outlook.com or Google. If you change a contact on your phone, that contact is also changed in the online service, and vice versa.
