Wallet for Windows Phone

To add a credit or debit card for Windows Phone Store purchases

Before you can add a card to buy apps, games, music, and videos in the Windows Phone Store, you'll need to sign in on your phone with a Microsoft account. To learn more, see Microsoft account.

  1. In the App list, tap Wallet Wallet Tile.

  2. On the All pane, tap Add Add icon, and then tap Credit or debit.

  3. Select the Set up card for app and music purchases check box and tap Next.

  4. Enter your card info and tap Next. Your card will be added to your Microsoft account to buy apps, games, music, and more in the Windows Phone Store.

  5. Your phone will search for an app from your bank (or card issuer) that's compatible with Wallet for Windows Phone. If it finds one, tap it to install the app and link it to your card. The app will regularly update your Wallet with account info such as account balance, transaction history, and more.

    Notes

    • If your phone can't find a matching app, that's okay—your card has already been saved to your Wallet and can be used for app and music purchases. You can check for available apps later by opening the card in your Wallet and tapping Search for app.
    • NFC transactions with credit or debit cards are currently only available in a small number of regions. For more information, see Wallet FAQ.
    • If you choose not to set up your card for app and music purchases during setup, you can still add your card to your Wallet. However, if your phone can't find a matching app, you'll need to add your card info manually.

To redeem a gift card

You can redeem a Windows Store gift card or promotional gift card right on your Windows Phone 8—then use it to buy apps, games, and more from the Windows Phone Store, Windows Store, and select Xbox stores. You'll need a Microsoft account to get started. If you don't have one, see Sign in with a Microsoft account to learn how to create one.

  1. In the App list, tap Wallet Wallet Tile.

  2. On the All pane, tap Add Add icon.

  3. Tap Microsoft gift card.

  4. Enter the 25-character code. (On physical gift cards, scratch off the label on the back of the card to find the code.) If you haven't entered it before, enter the billing info requested for your Microsoft account. Tap Next.

  5. In the App list, tap Store Store Tile to start shopping in the Windows Phone Store.

The gift card amount is added to your Microsoft account, so you can also use it later at the Windows Phone Store, Windows Store, and select Xbox stores.

Notes

  • To redeem a gift card from a web browser, go to the Microsoft account payment options website and click Redeem card, then follow the instructions.
  • Gift cards can't be redeemed on phones earlier than Windows Phone 8.
  • For help with Windows Store gift cards, go to www.microsoft.com/giftcard.
  • Gift cards aren't available in all countries/regions.
