With Avego Driver, you can turn your car into a bus! Avego will offer your empty seats to other people along your route in real time. Avego automatically shares the cost of the journey between the driver and the rider, saving everyone time and money! WHY AVEGO Driving alone is costly, both for the planet and for your pocket. Avego extends the public transportation network to private cars running on every road, by providing a marketplace for drivers to offer their unused seats to other people in real time. In this way, we can maximize transportation efficiency using an existing untapped resource – the vast amounts of empty seats that travel our roads every day. FEATURES -On-demand real-time ride matching with instant prompting of ride requests as you drive -Cashless payment from the rider to the driver -Real-time passenger information -Comprehensive safety features, including: PIN authentication of riders; registered users only; and a self-policing, self-correcting user rating system -Anyone can book a ride online or using a smartphone -Audio notifications for drivers -Accurate reporting of C02 savings, distance traveled, journey history, etc. via your online Avego account PLEASE NOTE: Avego Driver works best in areas where there is a critical mass of users. If you find that you are not getting matched with any riders as you drive, this is probably because there are not yet enough users in your area. We will contact you as soon as this number of users grows. Anyone living in Washington State may be interested in joining our go520 pilot program (www.go520.org). This app uses GPS, which can cause your battery to drain more quickly. Confirms everything twice, won't let me pick my second car, never found a rider on it. But it's a cool idea!

The idea here is cool, but the application's implementation is very v1 and frankly not usable. I tried it last night commuting home, set up my route and car and hit Go. Quite quickly it popped up with two drivers needing a ride. First problem: It gives a vague description of their location like "7-11". You can't see where they are on a map unless you accept picking them up. Fine, I tried since I was giving it a fair shot. Locations along the route it calculated for the pickups were great. The way the app shows you them is terrible. It gives you a tiny Bing Maps control you have to pan around. I noticed whenever I scrolled / zoomed the map it sent me back to the listing of pickups which was VERY frustrating. The app should give me addresses so I can plug them into my GPS. Having to look at the phone while driving is just dangerous, and in this state, illegal. Oh and when I got to the pickup locations, neither of the people were even there so I drove home alone having wasted time and gas.
